Adam Ravenscroft joined in April 1980 as a tea boy and helper on the Saturday afternoon Sport show.  He can be heard on Saturday morning for The Adam Ravenscroft Show from 10.00am-12.00noon.  In his own words, this is why Adam joined:

I had a love of Radio from a very early age and even used to play at being a radio DJ at home.  I have always listened to the radio and my first memories are of Tony Blackburn, David Hamilton and Paul Burnett on Radio 1.  Certainly these guys and later Pat Sharp have been my inspiration as a presenter.

While my Mother visited a friend in hospital she saw a sign for Hospital Radio Chelmsford and told me that there was a radio station at St. John’s Hospital. My Mum phoned up and was told that I should write a letter to Jim Cooper, the Chairman at the time.  I joined and got involved 2 days a week.  Much of my training to become a technical operator was done by Jim, Tony Wright and now BBC Essex presenter Steve Scruton. I used to present my own Request Show on Tuesday evenings for four years.  I would personally go ward visiting to collect requests before the show started. I particularly enjoyed the reception I got every week from the patients/residents in The Links Unit at St. John’s.  I have Ken Oliver to thank for my first regular ‘own’ show and he also encouraged me to start interviewing local people of some importance and some celebrities.  Particular favourites of mine are Roy Castle, Les Gray from the Pop Group Mud and former Footballer Trevor Brooking.  I have also twice interviewed Simon Burns MP.

I think that I have presented almost every type of programme over the years except Classical music and have worked regularly on all days of the week except Fridays.  I have however covered the odd show during my time on a Friday!

I have served on the Committee in many positions including Treasurer, Chairman, Public Relations Officer and currently I am Programme Controller/Vice Chairman.

Hospital Radio has given me so much over nearly 30 years including making the Top 10 twice in the Male Presenter of the year category (two years in a row, 2008 & 2009) in the National Hospital Radio Awards.  I hoped that I had developed my skills and feel I have after being recognised by the Hospital Broadcasting Association.
