It was a win that no one had even considered, but on 27th March 2010 Hospital Radio Chelmsford is crowned “Station of the Year” at the National Hospital Radio Awards. Also, Chairman Graham Medhurst was announced as Volunteer of the Year for his efforts in recruiting new talent to the radio station and one of his early successes Pam Shearing won a bronze award in the best Newcomer category.
Judges commented that HRC offered “A wide mix of programmes and highlights of the year. Engaging, warm and friendly. A true reflection of what hospital broadcasting is all about.”
Previous winners have included Faye Grantham who in 2004 won the Best Female Presenter, Tom Foster won Best Male Presenter in 2008 in the same year that Matt Wade picked up Volunteer of the Year. For Hospital Radio Chelmsford our best year at the awards was in 2006 where we hook 6 awards including the coveted Station of the Year.
All of the awards are truly special to the individuals and volunteers of the radio station alike as it shows recognition in the high standard of work that is put in and the dedication shown by the volunteer to HRC and the NHS, after all we are here to serve those in Broomfield hospital.
